Anniversary Island Hop

It's the anniversary of our Hawaii wedding, and Mr. C has surprised me with an Island Hop!
Although I've spent lots of time in the Islands,
I've not yet been to the Big Island of Hawaii.
So here we go ~

You can see the effect of  the VOG here, and how it obscures the (normally) crystal clear skies and waters.   Everything's just a bit murky and overcast.   I refer you to the conversation in my post "Why Oahu" for how this has affected property values on this island.  As we linger over coffee this morning, Mr. C is checking real estate prices ~ some condo developments have dropped by half since the volcano has been spewing.  Meaning what was a million and a half  is now more like $700,000.00

Although I know that this island has more volcanic rock than the others, I am still surprised to find that it translates to
the Kona Airport being in the middle of the lava field
which runs clear to the ocean.

The Kona airport is all open-air; also a big difference.
It reminds me of what we found on the island of
Koh Samui in Thailand.   This is our de-planing ramp,
in lieu of an actual jet bridge.

We are headed to the Kohala Coast

Where anniversary surprises await us both.

He's so romantic.  It's roses ~

Then dinner on the beach.

They do amazing things with
fresh fish here!

This Mahi Mahi was to die for!

Followed by a ravishing red sunset ~ which
I'm pretty sure he special ordered.

All this, and it's not even our anniversary till tomorrow.......

Where we start with breakfast on the lanai ~ then
we're off to explore!

Stay tuned for our Big Island adventures!

Such a cute picture of you with your roses and the surprises that were all set out waiting for you! Looks like a beautiful place to stay! I always love your sunset pictures complete with the palm trees…. So lovely!
The food just looks beautiful - the fish dishes! What a great anniversary get away this must have been!

    1. Well, when Mr. C sets his mind to planning something romantic, it's hard to surpass that, as you well know from the "Karen, let me fly you out to Hawaii for the surprise proposal" deal. Our hotel was fabulous, but setting up the amenities in the room was ~ maybe painful is the right word? It's Hawaii. It's US, but not really so much. I was asking for a "nice" bottle of red and a fruit / cheese plate. You know, just something nice. Looking at a wine & cheese basket from Silver Oak online, wondering if I can get it delivered to the island in time, wondering if they will keep it for us or deliver it to the wrong room or eat and drink it before we arrive and feign ignorance......instead they say they can do it "in house" "no problem". Five phone calls and one week later, without a single call-back or promised email, I am telling her "If I arrive TODAY and there is no anniversary gift waiting for him in the room (after all he's done to make it special for me), I will be very upset ~ and I will come look for you to let you know how upset I am!" Meanwhile the manager assured me it was all taken care of, there are roses in the room. Really??? He spilled the beans??? Is it I who got roses for him??? Is that really what I'm calling about (for the 5th time).
It was a tough Trip Advisor review for me, 'cause the setting is just heaven. As long as you are not counting on the staff to book your excursions.......
But outside of that small detail (so Hawaiian ~ they are just so relaxed about everything......) it was an amazing anniversary get-a-way. A perfect (memorable) time. Something new and interesting romantic and exciting. Just like my Mr. C.
